My friends form la Comanda a granel in Valencia asked me to give an informative and creative workshop with and about plastics bags. La Comanda is a concept store that tries to sell their groceries with the least pakaging possible. They encourage their customers to bring their own empty container and refill them there.
We had two really cosy evenings and discussed about the advantages and problems of plastics. Afterwards we had two hours to be creative, experimenting and designing of our own products made out of plastic bags.
It was interesting to see the huge amount of plastic bags La Comanda collected for the workshops in just two days! Friends and customers had been passing by and giving away their old plastic bags. We had way too many for our workshop, even though each participant used only an average of 3 to 5 plastic bags. This shows how people like to hold on to their old plastic bags and collect them and reuse them in their kitchens, but also how we still have to work more intensively in the reduction of the amount of plastic bags we take in the first place from supermarkets and stores (as we can’t upcycle all the trash we produce 😉 )
Thanks to all who came to the Feminist Repair Cafe on Saturday, 21. May, and big thanks to the No play – feminist training camp group for making it possible! (check the Facebook event)
On Saturday, 21. May I organized the first feminist Repair Café in the exhibition space of the NGBK
, Berlin. With experts Elektra & Flora Könemann.
Together we tried to repair small appliances like broken radios, lamps, headphones, tea kettles, CD players, hand blenders, mobile phones, etc (no printers / TVs / amplifiers – because there is not enough time and we don’t have the appropriate tools). Every participant could bring 1 to 2 broken things.
Repairing electrical appliances, figuring it out together (dt/eng).
Helpers: Elektra, Flora Könemann & Birte Gerstenkorn (Flirtefunk) & me.

In December 2015 I was invited to represent Kunst-Stoffe and give a seminar in the context of the Freiwilliges Ökologisches Jahr, a program where teenagers do a one year internship in a chosen ecological-organization.
After a presentation about plastics and the solutions to its environmental impact, the group was split into two. One group upcycled plastic bags while the other used old newspapers to braid paper-baskets and boxes.

In August 2015 Kunst-Stoffe was invited to give an upcycling workshop for the “Tag der offenen Tür” in the Bundeskanzleramt. In the workshop we built musical instruments out of waste material brought from the Kunst-Stoffe Lager.
We also built a smaller stage with a microphone, two loudspeakers and D.I.Y amplifiers, where the kids could play with their new, self-made instruments.
In August 2014 Julia Otten from Germanwatch e.V. organized a two day event about throw away society and about local initiatives fighting it. They made a visit to my atelier where I talked about the Repair Café as a strategy against planned obsolescence and the growing amount of electrical waste.
