The Palestinian Association for Empowerment and Local Development – REFORM has started, with the support of the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the first Innovation Hub in Ramallah, Palestine.
“The Innovation Hub – ‘Hand in Hand’, seeks to contribute to bridging the gaps between diverse groups of Palestinian youth by providing a safe and interactive platform, providing all members of Palestinian society with access to resources to improve their living conditions. Through establishing productive social dialogue and engaging in alternative productive systems, the Innovation Hub enhances social responsibility and increases participation of Palestinian youth in social, economic and political life. “
In November 2015 the group visited Leipzig and Berlin to get inspiration from different projects that could fit in their program in Ramallah – projects dealing with themes like participatory processes, local empowerment, circular economy, etc. One of the projects they visited was the Repair Café in my atelier in Kreuzberg.
A group of fifteen members came to the atelier to look at the space, the tools, and talk about how the Repair Café works. Then we had a hands-on practical part where we tried to repair their broken devices together. In the end of the Repair Café workshop we talked about waste reduction and had an Plastic bags upcycling workshop.
